Pearl, in today's economy with women being high earners more and more often. At my last Engineering job I felt the women had an advantage on promotions. In an industry that's maybe 10% women, but 50% of the bosses are women. For a successful long term partnership to exist it can't be 50/50. Through your 30+ year marriage one of the spouses may out earn the other by 3,4, or 5 times as much. The couple lifestyle will change as that household income changes. Equal burden is a better long term strategy. If one spouse earns 80% of the household income they pay 80% of the household bills. That spouse will still have 80% of the discretionary money in that model. Yes the household bills include: both phones, both cars, etc, etc. Remember a successfully marriage is a life time partnership where both spouses happiness matters.
